Job Description:
This Senior Communications Strategist develops and manages projects and activities related to public relations and internal communications. Under the direction of the Head of Corporate Communications, this position is responsible for public relations as it relates to corporate activities, product announcements and integration with marketing and external affairs. The role will also employ internal communications strategies and tactics to help keep employees informed, engaged and motivated.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Helps direct the creation and execution of media strategies to ensure quality media coverage on corporate matters.

  • Serves as relationship manager for key members of the press across Canada - print,broadcast and web.

  • Supports company’s response to external inquiries from key stakeholders, such as the press – through a variety of channels, including social media – to effectively communicate Xerox Canada’s position on certain matters.

  • Supports media training programs for key executives.

  • Works with PR agency to ensure the appropriate levels of media engagement for corporate, product and services announcements.

  • Supports the execution of crisis communication plans related to press activity for all Canadian regions/operations of the company.

  • Contributes to the development and execution of the annual, company-level communication plan and message platform.

  • Supports senior management communication plans.

  • Integrates business and HR communication practices and processes.

  • Consults with and supports communication contributors and ensures brand compliance.

Desired Skills + Experience:

The candidate must be assertive, dynamic, articulate and a self-starter able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. This position requires keen communications intuition, strong interpersonal skills, excellent writing abilities, a team player approach and the ability to handle confidential material.

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism or related area; 6+ years in public relations/corporate communications.

  • Exceptional writing, presentation and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated success in fast-paced media relations environment.

  • Demonstrated success in delivering internal communications activities across a geographically and functionally diverse organization.

  • Ability to juggle multiple projects under tight deadlines is essential.

  • Ability to make sound decisions quickly and efficiently.
